Persecution with The Possibility of Death
SCRIPTURE Q & A Why Is there persecution? How should the righteous respond to persecution? What arouses persecution? |
SUMMARY
As a result of legally mandated worship and the abandonment of liberty of conscience under the Antichrist, many will be compelled to conform to the masses under the pressure of loss of property, liberty, and in some cases, life. However, the Lord allows this trial that the witness of the faithful will encourage the undecided to trust and obey the Lord, rather than man, before the soon to come, Close of Probation. |
THOUGHTS
Why Is There Persecution?
"Persecution in its varied forms is the development of a principle which will exist as long as Satan exists and Christianity has vital power. No man can serve God without enlisting against himself the opposition of the hosts of darkness."
- The Great Controversy, p. 610
"As he influenced the heathen nations to destroy Israel, so in the near future he will stir up the wicked powers of earth to destroy the people of God. All will be required to render obedience to human edicts in violation of the divine law. Those who will be true to God and to duty will be menaced, denounced, and proscribed. They will "be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends."
- Testimonies to the Church, Volume 5, p. 473
"The contest is between the commandments of God and the commandments of men."
- Testimonies to the Church, p. 81
"Men will exalt and rigidly enforce laws that are in direct opposition to the law of God. Though zealous in enforcing their own commandments, they will turn away from a plain "Thus saith the Lord." Exalting a spurious rest day, they will seek to force men to dishonor the law of Jehovah, the transcript of His character. Though innocent of wrongdoing, the servants of God will be given over to suffer humiliation and abuse at the hands of those who, inspired by Satan, are filled with envy and religious bigotry."
- Testimonies to the Church, Volume 9, p. 229
"Zechariah's vision of Joshua and the Angel applies with peculiar force to the experience of God's people in the closing up of the great day of atonement. The remnant church will be brought into great trial and distress. Those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus will feel the ire of the dragon and his hosts."
- Testimonies to the Church, Volume 5, p. 472
"[Satan says] Thus the world will become mine. I will be the ruler of the earth, the prince of the world. I will so control the minds under my power that God's Sabbath shall be a special object of contempt. A sign? I will make the observance of the seventh day a sign of disloyalty to the authorities of earth. Human laws will be made so stringent that men and women will not dare to observe the seventh-day Sabbath. For fear of wanting food and clothing, they will join with the world in transgressing God's law. The earth will be wholly under my dominion."
- Prophets & Kings, p. 184
